September 25th

Next stage of our journey, we jumped back on to the #1 Canadian Highway, heading East. Destination Vernon, St Thomas McLean. (55km 40 minutes)

Sunday morning, woke up to a beautiful day, up early for what we thought was a 9am service.

Heading East to St Thomas, Vernon, SK. With Bishop Helen driving, Stephen, Sara and myself.

Made good time, leaving the highway onto a 'dirt' track for the last 8km and arrived 8:30am.

No-one there, so we checked inside and and looked around the beautiful grave yard. Having realised that things were not 9am start but 10:30 we headed back down the dirt track to Tim Hortons for a coffee.

Back to Vernon, (McLean) and the Brass Band were set-up and ready to play.  Fabulous!!

Bishop Helen robed, I was tasked with the Gospel reading, and a 'Spanish' sung responsory.

(Holy, Holy, in the heavens. Holy is our God)

Santo Santo en el cielo. Santo es el Senor.

And Sara assisted the Bishop at the altar.

I missed the gradual hymn, but we managed the Gospel and the responsory! Bishop Helen gave a fab address on Luke 16 19-31, Rich Man, Lazarus (the begger) and Abraham. Who are we in the story? How can we reduce the chasm?

Change the way we behave here and now: share the gifts and riches we have on earth. Level the playing field!! Live like Jesus.

A beautiful and spiritual service with friendly and welcoming locals. The original 'field stone' church, with no electricity or running water, holds two services a month during the summer, and only opens Christmas eve, for Carols by candle light, in the winter. We were then invited back to the farm next door, (thank you Bruce) for a roast dinner! Totally amazing!

Their last service in August had been to celebrate the Queens Jubilee. (Hence the banner.)
